Welcome to the Soul and Sound Healing Blog, I am so excited to find you here!

I think the best way to kick off this blog is to simply jump in. Much like a cool lake on a hot summer day, there’s not much point in dipping your toes in five times to test the water. You’re either doing a cannonball now or you’re going home.

Who am I?

My name is Laina Pilkenton and I am the owner of Soul and Sound Healing. I am a sound therapy practitioner who flutters back and forth between the digital marketing world and the metaphysical realm. My journey to sound therapy has been an interesting one, to say the least. If you had asked me a little over a year ago if I thought I would be doing sound therapy I would have looked at you like you were off your rocker.

But here I am! With a degree in English and Secondary Education, my life has taken some interesting turns and I’m glad to be along for the ride.

How did I discover sound therapy?

It’s a long story, to be honest, so I’ll paraphrase. Essentially, it was a matter of asking the right question at the right time. In 2016, I took a year-long metaphysical course that changed my life. One day, we were discussing various tools we could use in our practices and I asked, “What do you do with singing bowls?” My teacher answered the question (more on that later) and during our first break, one of my classmates approached me.

She handed a piece of paper with a woman’s contact information and said, “Here, call this lady.” That day she gave me the phone number and address for my future teacher, Maria Dummermuth. While I didn’t receive a singing bowl session right away, I scheduled one for my mom for Mother’s Day (which was about a month away). I went to Maria’s home with my mom and listened to Maria playing the bowls from the living room.

I. Was. Mesmerized.

The sounds coming from the bowls was enchanting and I HAD to have more. Maria was getting ready to offer her first class as she is a teacher trainer through the Atma Buti Sound and Vibrational School in Boulder, CO.

It was all uphill from there.

What is this blog about?

This blog is about all things related to Soul and Sound Healing and the practice of sound therapy itself. You’ll find posts about upcoming events, information regarding sound therapy, and my thoughts on energy healing and sound healing in general.

What topics am I going to discuss?

  • Reiki
  • Sound therapy (also called “sound healing”)
  • Energy work
  • Singing bowls, tuning forks, the didgeridoo, and other instruments
  • My personal experiences with sound therapy and energy work
  • Other topics as they relate to sound therapy

What is my goal?

I want to see sound therapy spread and I want to help people while doing it. I’ve always loved music as my own personal healing tool, but sound therapy specifically has become a passion of mine over the last year. The cool part is that many people are already interested in working with singing bowls, tuning forks, and other indigenous instruments. Here in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, we’ve created our own little community full of amazing sound practitioners and I am so fortunate to be a part of it. I can’t wait to explore this topic and offer my insights as they come up.

So, let’s spread the sound therapy movement!
